Live Edge T-Type

A body informed by the tree from which it came.

The Story

I really love building guitars that show off natural aspects of the tree from which they are made. I found this slab of sycamore at Live Edge Detroit and was inspired immediately. The curvature of the tree makes for an extremely comfortable arm cut. I find the texture so interesting.

The neck is a maple and rosewood construction by Mighty Mite. It has a great shape and is super comfortable.

The pickups are truly the best part of this build. Gemini makes gold foils in three specs. The neck on this build is their DeArmond spec. Wound to 9k with a ceramic bar magnet and 44awg wire. It’s thick with defined highs and great touch sensitivity. As Gemini describes it, “kind of a cross between a goldfoil and a P90.”

The bride is Gemini’s Suprocaster Tele pickup. Gemini describes it best: “It features two big, powerful ceramic 8 bar magnets stuck to the back of the steel baseplate that the pole screws thread into, producing a big, diffuse magnetic field. Imagine a beefy tele or a really clear P90 with a bell-like sustain for days.”

Fender locking tuners and a Bigsby trem system round out the specs. A fantastic instrument with great tone!
