Hollertone 23

An instrument celebrating our favorite weekend music festival.

The Story

Every year we do our best to attend Holler Fest, a three-day festival near Brooklyn, Michigan. For 2023, I asked if I could build a Holler Fest-themed guitar for the merch booth. Without a design or idea of what I would put together, they gave me the thumbs up.

The body is a single reclaimed slab of Honey Locust, again from my pals at Live Edge Detroit. Honey locust is extremely dense and very resonant. The full build weight falls in the LP range at just about 10lbs even.

A very, very cool property of Honey Locust is its natural reactivity to UV light. The bulk of the body glows green under a black light. The inlays were mixed with UV ink to provide a contrasting blue glow under UV light.

The pickups are Seymour Duncan Antiquity P90’s. The bridge plate is a chromed brass Gotoh plate with Forney Custom Guitar and Amplifier aluminum saddles. The tuners are Sperzel locking with gold knobs.

The original build was presented with custom curly maple control covers to commemorate this year’s Holler Fest. The guitar will be sold with a plain curly maple set of covers upon request.
